Ontario Snakes and Turtles

Description: Once again, the caring folks from Wild Birds Unlimited invited the public to visit the store and learn more about local endangered species. The reptiles, which came from Scales Nature Park, included a Black Rat snake which can grow to 2.5 meters in length (they are excellent tree climbers) and a pair of snapping turtles. These latter guys really keep out waterways clean by eating other dead aquatic dwellers. They are very vulnerable and afraid when out of the water which is why they will strike out. As mortality rates from automobile hits soar, they are so "at risk" that a special project called S.T.A.R.T. has been created. If you see turtles on or near a roadway, please call 705-955-4284.
